The last motor I built I forced the wastegates to remain open all of the time, and drove it as an NA for a couple hundred miles. On the highway, do WOT pulls, and then let it coast down still in gear for high vacuum. Rinse, repeat. Worked like a charm. You have a limited window in which to seat the rings. Being too gentle during break in may cause the rings to not to seat properly. I had this issue with my motor several years ago...I was far too gentle, and ended up with a oil burner. Then I took it to Texas World Speedway and ran it at 20 psi all weekend. Rings = seated. Oil consumption was cured. 50k miles later, leakdown is excellent at 2-3% for 1-5, and 5% for #6.
